GRAPHIC DESIGN & LEARNING ABOUT ART

On these days we learn about Graphic Design, logos and branding. On Art day we learn about famous artists, and then head out to tour an art museum and see the Real Thing. One or two years, we got to meet with a practicing artist here in LA, like Vasa.

INTERIOR DESIGN & ARCHITECTURE

On these days, we met with architects and Interior designers. We travelled to see homes under construction, and saw all the design choices available in the Pacific Design Center. When we got back to the studio, it was time to settle down and start designing our won personal spaces, and we ended the unit by presenting mood-boards and space planning diagrams.

FASHION DESIGN

This was one of our most popular days. We met with women in the fashion industry, frum fashion designers here in LA, and we also worked in a visit to FIDM, in downtown LA to see what a fashion school looks like. Instead of climbing into our big white bus, we got tickets and rode the subway!

PHOTOGRAPHY

Learning and practicing our photography was a constant theme from Day 1. On Photography Day we met with professional photographers, and even went to a photographer’s studio and learnt about the ancient art of film photography. We got to use his darkroom and develop our own photos.

SMALL BUSINESS

A very important component of living and working as a creative designer is managing as a business person. On these days we met with a small business consultant to learn more about “the real world”. We filled up the rest of the day by meeting a designer-entrepreneur and discussing their businesses with them. Over the years we met with a milliner, furniture designer, women’s fashion store owner and graphic designer amongst many others.

BEAUTY & FASHION aka PERSONAL DESIGN

Let’s appreciate our OUTER beauty! We met with professionals in the fields of hair & make-up. Some lucky girls got full make-overs as models, while the rest got a narration to see what is involved in applying a full face of make-up. Then we went over to hairdressing schools and each girl go their girl seen to by student hairdressers. Each year we planned a fun evening activity to enjoy once all the campers were looking so presentable 🙂 A fun time for all.
